Supposedly some club promoters in Ohio liked a couple of twitter hashtags saying #teamlightskin" and "teamdarksin" and are throwing a party themed around light versus dark skin. Even though the flyer claims that the party will be the "most anticipated party of the year," I can't help but think: wtf??? This happened before (I believe a few years ago?) and the party promoter got chewed out for holding such an event. I'm curious how this event will turn out. Hopefully no one shows up and endorses this type of thing. But that's just my opinion...

Thanks for posting this.
I really hope that few (if any) people show up for this event. Certainly not a type of event that uplifts people (especially women).
This is hideous & tacky to say the least of the promoter to even think of something like this. We came to far as a people to stoop this low. When I first heard about it I though it was a joke but now I know it is not....SMH
I agree, Jayson. Whoever decided to throw this party is clearly ignorant (or isn't ignorant but wanted to capitalize on a divide that has caused a lot of pain for many people throughout history). Very silly party concept, IMO.

Kris, u hit it on the nail when you said they just want to "capitalize on a divide that has caused a lot of pain for many people throughout history" Perfectly stated!!!

So SAD!

I remember the Alphas at my school during my undergrad years holding a forum on the topic of light skin vs. dark skin women. It was quite controversial. You wouldn't believe how many educated men actually made the comment "light skin girls have the upper hand". One guy went on to explain that if two girls walked into an event that were the same shape, size, equal looks...he would always go for the lady who was more fair in complexion. Some justified it as being a simple preference. I've even been given the backhanded comment "your really pretty for dark skin girl". My response: "blank stare".I hope they weren't expecting a "thank you".
That's so unfortunate that men still think and say stuff like that. The media today (and for a long time) has really promoted lighter-skinned black women compared to darker-skinned black women, so I think a lot of people simply believe that 1) light skin automatically equates to beauty, and 2) if a black woman is dark and pretty, she is a rarity. *smh*
This is unbelievable.   I can't believe we are still doing this to ourselves in 2011.
OMG,  can't believe this, I hope that nobody shows up there.
