My Weight Loss Challenge Forum (moved to Cafe Belle Fitness Journal section)

Hey Cafe Belle members,
I have just announced on YouTube that I am starting my personal weight loss challenge, and am inviting you to join along as well! The whole point of this challenge is to get fit and healthy. It isn't about trying to get down to a model-thin size. All of us should be mindful of our health and should be conscious of whether we are on track with our exercise and food habits. Why not start or get back on track now? It may be the end of summer, but that doesn't mean that we should go into hibernation mode and forget about our health. Now is a better time than any to kick start your journey to better health and take steps towards a better you!

Excellent! Thanks for the update, Dee! You're making great changes to your food regimen. I love Raisin Bran, by the way - I haven't tried Raisin Bran Crunch though. It sounds delish tho!

Whew! Just came back from an intense run by the beach this morning! I think my endurance is definitely getting better. I actually spent about two hours in the gym yesterday morning pushing myself as much as possible on cardio machines (treadmill, elliptical, and stairmaster) as well as doing some weight-lifting workouts (specifically focusing on toning my outer and inner portions of my legs) and did a bunch of ab floor workouts. I think I probably pushed myself a bit too much yesterday (or perhaps didn't drink enough water before) because I had an annoying headache later in the day. It went away though, so no worries. :)

I feel good after this morning's run. There is something to be said about pushing yourself with a hard run early in the morning. It really helps get the day started, especially on such a good, healthy note.

Little fitness tip #1: If you are working out on your own, listen to music on an MP3 player as you work out. I spent some time creating a fun workout playlist on my IPOD yesterday, and it really helped push me through my workout. :)
Little fitness tip #2: Don't forget to stretch before, during, and after your workout! During my run this morning, I took breaks during my workout to stretch my arms and legs, and it helped me get through the workout a lot easier.
Kristin, I would would dump the Special K and go with a cereal from Kashi, filling and healthier. High fructose corn syrup is in Special K. I try my best to avoid products with the HFCS (hard since they put it in everything!)

What about a smoothie in the morning instead of a latte? http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/recipes/2420 I whip this bad boy up and drink it on my way to work.
Is Kashi good? I remember buying some Kashi several years ago and it didn't have a great taste. But I know they have many flavors now so I'm going to check out the brand again. Plus, I think it may work as a great snack as well during the day!

That smoothie sounds delish! I'm going to try it out - Thanks!
Yeah Kashi is not appealing to most I stick to http://www.kashi.com/products/strawberry_fields_original or this brand http://www.peacecereal.com/index.html like their vanilla almond

I would suggest shopping in the organic section for cereals.
Hm neat - I'm going to get one of these asap and switch out my Special K. Thanks!

So I am having a rough cold this week so I don't have much to report as to my fitness regimen this week (as the cold pretty much knocked me off my feet for the most part). But I haven't been munching on any terrible snacks, so that's a good thing. And I've avoided junk food for the past few weeks as much as possible - although I did indulge a little in a small bag of popcorn and some potato chips a couple of times.

I am excited to get back on with my fitness once my cold is over. I'm really inspired by the reports by others who have joined this challenge, so that re-inspires me to really get back on the horse and keep pushing with my weight loss.

I'm going to post my initial body measurements (at the beginning of the challenge) asap, by the way, so definitely stay tuned to this forum space for the update.

I am happy to announce that my cold is over and I am back on my fitness regimen (as of last night). I did a half hour on the treadmill and about 10 minutes on the stepmaster. I plan on doing some hardcore working out tomorrow, so I'm excited for that.

I will say that overall I am pretty pleased with my progress so far (even though I only started this challenge a few weeks ago). My clothes are fitting a lot better, and I think that is primarily due to cutting out a lot of my usual fast food, constant latte addiction, and junk food. Yay! I'm still pushing along, and will continue to update you along the way.

Hey hun, you are fine the way you are :) I am sure you have a great plan etc!! I lost 23 pounds in the space of 2-3 months by doing a boxercise, spinning, and general gym workouts (tredmill, weights etc). My eating habbits are terrible but I tend to just eat a lot less crap but don't cut out all the crap :) I got 14 pounds more to go until I am my personal ideal weight... :)

I wish you all the best and I am sure you will do well.
Hey Rochelle! Thanks for your comment! I'm definitely going to do a lot more aerobic exercise to cut down the weight faster. I do the general gym workouts now (treadmill, weights, stepmaster and elliptical), but I'm going to add kickboxing to my fitness regimen. I am thinking about spinning too! Thanks for the tips! :D

Okay, so it's time for some honesty. I had a bit of a fitness slump the past two weeks and only went to the gym maybe once or twice per week. I still kept up with my dietary regimen though: I drink more water, I eat a fiber-rich cereal with skim milk (or two-percent milk) in the mornings with yogurt, a basic ham/turkey sandwich or salad, and various dinner choices such as spaghetti, corn beef and broccoli, tilapia with rice and corn (and the list goes on).

I'm not sure why I had a fitness slump. I think it was a combination of boredom with the gym and not feeling up for putting on warmer workout clothes on to run in the nearby parks. I am not getting down on myself or my progress though. I want to keep plugging with my weight loss challenge, so I reenergized my fitness regimen this morning and went to the gym and got a great workout. I did the treadmill for 30 min, elliptical for about 20 minutes, and various weight lifting machines to strengthen my abs and legs.

I'll continue to keep you posted with my progress. Writing about my progress helps me keep track of my progress, so look out for my next post soon! The next post will contain some updates re: my weight and measurements.
