COVER UP The best way to protect your hair from the sun's rays is abstinence! Block exposure to the sun by covering up your tresses with a hat or scarf.
STYLE WITH COVERAGE Many products including leave in conditioners have SPF built right into them. Be sure to use enough to cover all locks that will exposed to the sun.
DIY SUNBLOCK FOR YOUR HAIR Don't have styling products infused with SPF protection? Dilute one tbsp sunblock with one cup of water in a spray bottle. Mist onto hair before styling. Just be sure to use a clarifying shampoo when you decide to wash your hair to remove any buildup left behind.
AVOID LIGHTENING PRODUCTS Avoid peroxide, lemon juice, alcohol and other sun activated hair lightening products. These products will dry out your hair and actually speed up the process of sun damage to the hair.
PROTECT HAIR FROM CHLORINE Before going into the pool wet hair with tap water. The porous hair will soak in the tap water, so hair won't be as absorbent to chlorine pool water. Take it a step further and after wetting your hair apply a leave-in conditioner before hopping in the pool.
