January 6, 2011: Hair Trim Day
I definitely needed a hair trim today, but I was very hesitant about going to any salon to do it. Like many women (especially black women), it's scary losing a lot of hair length with scissor-happy stylists who want to "construct" a look for you. I've personally lost inches of healthy hair over the course of many years because a trim went from just a trim to a "cute style." Not this time!
Hesitant about trimming my own hair, I checked out some videos on YouTube about how to self-trim. I watched these videos first:
And then I read some articles recommended by DPrincess28 (You can click here for her site where she lists a bunch of great articles toread about self-trimming).
I bought a pair of salon scissors last night to use today to self-trim (Brand: Diane's"Clean-Cut", 6.5" salon scissors, made out of stainless steel). I then copied the technique in those videos, twisting my hair and trimming split ends along the way. I also looked at my ends for split ends and trimmed those very carefully as well. I sectioned my hair while doing this, by the way, to make it easier and not repeat the same sections over and over.
When I was finished, my hair felt a lot smoother and my ends looked and felt a lot healthier. I then finished the whole process by putting a bit of coconut oil in my hair to moisturize my tresses. Overall, the process took about a half hour to forty-five minutes. Not bad for the first try! :)
Coconut has a myriad of benefits that you may not know of. Here is a quick list of the beauty benefits of coconut oil that will have you adding it to your beauty regimen before you know it. Continue Reading Here
