Live Your Most Beautiful Life
I used Carol's Daughter's Moisturizing Black Vanilla Hair Trio Set and I am really impressed. The sulfate-free shampoo thoroughly cleansed my hair without drying out my strands, the conditioning hair smoothie moisturized my hair without leaving any residual coating, and the leave-in conditioner fortified my hair, increasing its overall elasticity (a key to retaining hair length and minimizing breakage). I have 4a/4b relaxed hair and am currently in the middle of stretching my relaxer, and I like the fact that the trio set boosted my hair with some additional strength. Also, I love the fact that these products contain so many natural ingredients (ingredients listed below). Another major benefit: The products together leave an amazingly delicious (but not overpowering) vanilla scent on your tresses.
Description of the Black Vanilla Moisturizing Hair Trio Set:
This ultra-moisturizing trio hydrates parched hair, making detangling a cinch and leaving your strands soft, shiny and easy to maintain.
PLUS, No Parabens, No Petroleum, No Mineral Oil, No Artificial Colors
Instructions on how to use the Black Vanilla Moisturizing Trio Set:
Start by massaging the Black Vanilla Moisturizing Shampoo into wet hair and scalp. Ingredients like Lavender, Nettle and Red Clover will help to soothe a dry, irritated scalp while the sulfate-free formula gently cleanses your hair without stripping away moisture. Rinse thoroughly with warm water.
Next, apply the Black Vanilla Hair Moisturizing Smoothie throughout the hair and pay special attention to your ends. Gently massage into your hair then use a wide-tooth comb to completely work it into your hair and to help detangle. Leave in your hair for 5 to 7 minutes before rinsing out with warm water.
(TIP: Use weekly as a deep conditioner by adding a plastic cap and moderate heat for about 10 to 15 minutes.)
Liberally spray the Black Vanilla Moisturizing Leave-In Conditioner onto damp hair and comb through. It helps to replenish lost natural moisture and shine while also detangling so there are fewer breaks when combing. You can also use this daily on dry hair as a style refresher.

This is a great shampoo. It suds up pretty quickly, and my scalp and hair felt really refreshed and cleansed after using it. Plus, it didn't tangle up my hair and left a pleasant vanilla scent. I recommend this shampoo if you are looking for a sulfate-free shampoo that does not dry out your hair and keeps it sufficiently moisturized without leaving any type of silicone-type coating on your strands.

The smoothie is nourishing for my hair and smells heavenly. As recommended, I went under the dryer for about 10 minutes with a plastic cap and rinsed out the product under lukewarm/cold water. My hair felt really moisturized, clean, and it smelled absolutely fantastic. After the smoothie was completely rinsed out, my strands overall felt moisturized and did not have any type of "slip" or coating on them.

My review:
I consider this leave-in a strengthening leave in. While it has some moisturizing elements, I will definitely use this again when my hair needs more strength and/or if I need to reduce hair breakage. It contains protein, which works wonderfully for fortifying the hair and lessening breakage. This is a great product overall because it is a gentle strengthening hair product that you don't wash out. The leave-in does not have a "slip" element that other leave-ins with silicones have, but that is totally fine. I love the fact that my hair instantly felt stronger after using it. Overall, I am going to use this leave-in when my hair feels like it needs protein and strength, and I will use my more moisturizing leave-ins when my hair really needs more slip and needs moisture.
Your hair needs a healthy balance between moisture and protein in order to retain length and look (and feel) great, so if you are looking for a strengthening leave in, I highly recommend the Black Vanilla Leave In Conditioner. Side note: Because this leave in doesn't provide the "slip" that other leave-ins have, be gentle while detangling your hair after use, and apply a moisturizing product to your hair before proceeding to your next hair styling step. (For example, I used a moisturizing serum/heat protectant in my hair next before proceeding to blow dry my hair).

Comment by Bluebutterfly on July 5, 2012 at 10:18am I tried this product and it dried my hair out.. I thought it was just the "first time" usage syndrome..but when I used it again I got the same results. The shampoo does later well and smells great..but for MY hair it feels stripped..more like a clarifying shampoo.. the smoothie did nothing to help revert that effect .. my hair still felt like I just did a hard protein treatment.. the leave seemed to add too it..my hair was stiff as a board and I have no slip with either product.. I expected more for the price.. will not repurchase..
